You may remember last year when I highlighted a paperweight that I made for Brenda from Ayrshire in Scotland containing fishing flies. The custom paperweight for fishing flies I made for Brenda at the time was square in shape and containing two flies and additional text.

Well, recently Edward from Cambridgeshire contacted me and asked me if I could make a bespoke paperweight containing a single fishing fly. Edward said “I am a keen angler, and that fly is the one I used when I caught my first salmon. Salmon fishing is a tricky sport, and it took my five years to get my first salmon, hence I want to preserve the fly for posterity.”
On this occasion Edward wanted the single fly encased inside a domed paperweight without any text. He sent me a photo of the fishing fly to ensure that it would be suitable, and this is the completed paperweight.

The fishing fly really does look beautiful inside the paperweight and the resin enhances and shows off the colours of the fly, just as it would look under water. It is difficult to appreciate from the photo, but there is a lovely shimmer to the colours used in the construction of the fly.
